Obituary

Susan Kautzer, 70, returned to her Lord and Savior on December 18, 2019. She passed after courageously fighting a long battle with cancer. A funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Marlin. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2019 at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin,Texas.

"Suzie" was born on August 23, 1949 to Floyd and Claudia Goode of Jarrell, TX. Growing up you could frequently see her playing with her cousins at her Daddy Fred and Mama Lee's house or at their family Gin both in Jarrell, TX. She was a 1967 graduate of Jarrell High School and a 1971 graduate of Texas Christian University (TCU). After graduation from TCU, she was armed to begin her career as an educator. She taught at Jarrell, Dayton and Marlin ISD and coached both basketball and volleyball in Jarrell. It was during her stint at Jarrell where she met another young coach named Charles "Chuck" Kautzer. The rest is history. In 1978 they wed and later had two children. After a stop at Dayton ISD they would settle in Marlin for the rest of their careers. She was a lifelong Methodist and an active member of the First United Church of Marlin where she maintained her strong faith and relationship with Christ. She served the community with a heart of gold.

Susan was remembered as a great teacher, stern but fair. Teaching was easy for her as she loved it so much. Nothing more than history, particularly civil war era. Her students loved her passion for teaching and mid-way through her career she was dawned the "chalk monster" because of the amount of notes she prepared each day on the black board for her students. Her passion for learning did not stop when she retired. Until the day she died, she always strived to learn, mostly about history. Susan was an avid college football fan (Hornedfrogs all the way). Post retirement she took a part time job with the FEZ Greenhouse in Marlin, part of the Falls Education Coop. It was there she learned she had another passion, horticulture and gardening. As with everything in her life she strived to be an expert in the field. Her last years were spent sitting on the front porch watching cattle and chasing grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Claudia Goode and her brother Frederick Goode all of Jarrell, TX.

She is survived by her, husband, Chuck Kautzer (Chilton, TX), children, daughter Amy Hayes and son-in-law Chris Hayes (Troy, TX), her son Kenny Kautzer (College Station, TX), two grandchildren, Garrett and Grady Hayes her brother, Byron Goode (Jarrell, TX) and her sweet dog Peanut.
