Sharron Kay Schwecke Geldmeier, a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 6, 2016 after a lengthy illness. A native Houstonian, Sharron was born on October 11, 1942 to the late Rev. Al and Mrs. Idell Schwecke. While her father was serving in World War II, she and her mother lived with her maternal grandparents, Alvin and Ella Beckman, in Industry, TX until her father's happy return. As a young girl, she lived in Belleville, Illinois while her father attended Eden Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, her father accepted a call to serve as pastor of Frieden's Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Riesel, Texas where he would minister for the next 40 years. This is where Sharron would spend the remainder of her formative years. The valedictorian of Riesel High School class of 1960, Sharron was an excellent student and champion debater. She attended Texas Christian University for three years where she studied education and enjoyed playing French horn in the TCU marching band. On June 16, 1963, Sharron married her Riesel High School sweetheart, William "Pete" Geldmeier, and together, they moved to Houston where her new husband was employed at Arthur Anderson & Co. She completed her undergraduate degree in education at the University of Houston. An excellent teacher, Sharron began her career as an English instructor at TH Rogers Junior High School in Houston. Soon thereafter, Sharron and Pete purchased their life-long home where both of their daughters, Lesa and Laura, were born and raised. A loving mother and homemaker, Sharron stopped teaching in order to devote herself fully to the lives of her children and husband. She was an expert seamstress, excellent cook and entertainer, master orchid gardener, and a frequent school volunteer. One of her favorite hobbies was serving as a leader for her daughter's Girl Scout troop. Sharron enjoyed attending church at Central Presbyterian and later at Grace Presbyterian Church where she was an active volunteer and women's circle participant. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family while relaxing at the family's beach house or country home. Travelling and theatre were also favorite pastimes she enjoyed with family and friends. Sharron's kind, caring, and loving nature will be missed immensely by all whose lives she touched. Sharron is survived by William "Pete" Geldmeier, her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, daughter Lesa (Geldmeier) DuCharme and husband David DuCharme and grandchildren Coleman, Willy, and Ella DuCharme of Houston, Texas, daughter Laura Geldmeier and grandchildren Caroline and Sarah Anderson of Flower Mound, Texas, sister Karen (Schwecke) Bates and husband Bob Bates from Bend, OR, nieces Kristen (Bates) Rush husband Ben and their children Hudson, Holden and Hazel Rush and Kelsey Bates all of Seattle, WA, and aunt, Jennie Mobley and cousin Jan Brasher both of Conroe, Texas. Graveside services were held at Riesel Cemetery on Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 with a reception following at Frieden's Church in Riesel, Texas. A memorial service celebrating Sharron Geldmeier's life is planned for Monday, December 5 at 12:00 pm in the chapel at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Ln, Houston, TX 77042. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church.
