Bettye Jean "BJ" Afinowicz of Marlin entered into rest Monday, August 5, 2013 at the age of 80.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Rawls officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Marlin on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

BJ was born November 4, 1932 in Marlin,Texas to Coleman and Constance Lucas. She was a lifelong resident of Marlin. In 1954 she married Leon David Afinowicz and together they raised 3 children. BJ worked for a period of time as a respiratory therapist. She loved to go camping and enjoyed crocheting and reading her Harlequin Romance novels. She is loved dearly and will be missed by many.

BJ was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leon who passed away in 1996; her sister, Wanda Nutt; and her brother, Jack Lucas.

Survivors include her sister, Linda Ethridge of Marshall; her children, Rhonda Downes and husband Gary; Rickey Afinowicz; Jackie Afinowicz and fiancé Tracy McGuire all of Marlin; Grandchildren, Brian Messman, Kelly Flaugher, Colby Downes, Christopher Afinowicz, Codey Afinowicz and Clayton Afinowicz; 4 Great Grandchildren and Daughter-In-Law, Wanda Grote, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Golden Years Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department.
